  • First, you should be sure to work with a knowledgeable agent that can explain the basics of the costs associated with your home purchase.  
  • Second, ask your agent to obtain a "net sheet" for you, which is a breakdown of estimated closing costs for the home you want to purchase, provided by a title company.  
  • Third, if you are financing a portion of your purchase, you'll want to be sure that you work with a loan officer who is dedicated to explaining the loan costs thoroughly, and is happy to address ALL your questions.  Your agent can offer you a list of lenders which you can contact, and be sure to choose the one that takes their time with you!

Having Trouble Deciding the Color Scheme for Your Kitchen Remodel???

With the infinite amount of options for both materials and colors, as well as the overwhelming amount of remodeling information and suggestions available on the internet...making your decision on something that is such a significant expense and upgrade to your home can become almost impossible! Confusion sets in, and what you thought you had finally decided on...you start second guessing.  And next thing you know, you're back to square one! 

Well maybe I can help!  I have been in the real estate industry since the late 1980's, and was an appraiser for 20 years!  So I have literally been inside thousands of homes over the years, and have seen many, many kitchen trends come and go! However, there is one color scheme option that has consistently stayed in demand, or come back around over and over again. What is it you ask???

WHITE!!!  Yes, you read that correctly...white!  The beauty of white, is that there are SO many variations to choose from, AND, endless possibilities for pairing other colors for contrast, cabinetry, flooring, appliances, accents...you name it.  Nothing is more versatile and timeless!  

An added bonus to choosing a white color scheme is that if and when you choose to sell your home...your kitchen will absolutely appeal to the broadest number of potential buyers...and that benefit simply cannot be overstated!!!

We recently had our kitchen remodeled in a white color scheme, and without exception, every single person who see's it has liked it, with some even having a predetermined notion that they would not.  Yet they liked it, much to their surprise! Seeing is believing!!!

And to show you how you can use the white color scheme as the primary color, and then bring in plenty of punches of your preferred colors, the pic above shows our new leaded glass light fixture and paint colors, and the pic below shows our choice of backsplash tile...which is a beautiful glass mosaic product by Jeffrey Court:

So hopefully you are getting the idea???  That if you choose your favorite shade of white, and yes there are many; you can then have so much fun choosing everything else in your other colors of choice...while still maintaining the "timeless" quality of the quintessential white kitchen, and the very important benefit of future resale appeal!

Should You Make Repairs Prior to Selling Your Home?

So you are getting ready to sell your home?  And you find yourselves asking "should we repair or update anything before we sell, and if so, what things should we do?"  Much of that answer depends on three things:  1) What the repair/update costs will be, 2) What those repair/update expenditures will return to you when you sell, and lastly, 3) Which repairs/updates will bring the highest return...
